Police are working to identify a body that was found buried on a property in Norway.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the body is believed to be a woman, possibly in her 80's. State Police located the remains buried in the backyard of a property at 239 Harrison Road, as they were conducting a search. Investigators say it appears the woman died in the past 12 to 18 months, and may have lived in the mobile home on the property.

The remains have been taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta, where an autopsy is planned on Wednesday to confirm her identity and determine cause of death. There's no word about why the police were searching the property or whether foul play is suspected.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Oxford County Sheriff's Office Norway Police, the Maine Department of Transportation, and the Medical Examiner's Office.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
