A woman died after being hit by a truck in the town of Turner Thursday night.

The accident happened at around 9:00 on Route 4, near the intersection with Lower Street. Centralmaine.com reports the woman was badly injured when rescue crews arrived, and died shortly after. Her name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office says the driver of the truck, whose name has also not been released, was not hurt and is cooperating with the investigation. Speed and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash.

A portion of Route 4 was shut down to traffic for several hours as deputies were assisted in their investigation by Maine State Police Troopers and a Lewiston Police Officer.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
