Don’t Let Orrington Old Home Week End – Volunteer Now to Help
The annual Orrington Old Home Week, which includes the Endless Yard Sale, may not happen this year unless people step up to help plan it.
Old Home Week is a Fun Tradition for Orrington and Surrounding Communities
Every summer, Orrington is filled with visitors taking part in fun activities during Old Home Week, which happens mid-summer. Probably the most popular event is the Endless Yard Sale, that sees individual sales all over town, with a map to direct visitors to each one. It's a crazy weekend when it seems like there are more people in town in one weekend than all the rest of the year. In the past, there have also been community suppers, a Civil War encampment, a photo contest (which I take part in every year), ice cream social, and more.

With No Planning Board, the Event's Existence is in Danger
It's one of those things I think we all take for granted will happen every year. So I was surprised when I found out that this year's celebration is in jeopardy because almost all the members of the planning board have retired. It's too big an undertaking for just one or two people to plan and execute, so volunteers are needed ASAP to start putting it together. People who can help with planning, marketing, and fundraising are needed now, and more will be needed during Old Home Week to act as on-site volunteers.
People Who Can Help Are Encouraged to Call Today
Kelly Brooks at the Orrington Public Library is working hard to keep the event alive and would love to hear today from anyone interested in helping to make this a reality. Time is of the essence, so the sooner you can let her know you're ready and willing, the better. Kelly can be reached at the Orrington Public Library at 825-4938. A meeting is planned for tonight, Wednesday, March 27th, so if you can contact her today, that would be perfect.
