One person died in a house fire in Falmouth that was reported at around 5:00 Saturday night.

The Falmouth Fire Department said in a post on its Facebook page that the call started out as a vehicle on fire inside a garage at 27 Gray Road. The fire had been reported by a passerby. But, before crews arrived, the call changed to a working fire as the flames spread. They were delayed by a downed power line in the road on the north side, but the Portland Fire Department was able to get to the scene, in the meantime.

The body of an elderly man was found inside the home. No one else was hurt. Officials have not released the victim's name, until his family can be notified.

The State Fire Marshal's Office will be inspecting to determine what sparked the blaze, including taking the vehicle where the fire originated to Augusta for examination. Officials say the house did have working smoke detectors.
