A New Hampshire woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing a truck and crashing it on the Maine Turnpike.

Maine State Police saw a red Chevrolet Silverado work truck speeding on the Turnpike just after 1:00 Monday morning, near Scarborough. Police activated their emergency lights and began to pursue the truck as it weaved in and out of traffic, including driving in the breakdown lane. A check of the license plate revealed the the truck had been stolen in New Hampshire. The Trooper quickly terminated the chase, however, because there was a lot of traffic congestion and construction in the area.

Another Trooper picked up the pursuit  at mile marker 52, as the pickup traveled east on the Falmouth Spur, where there was a lot less traffic. Before State Police could deploy their spike mats, however, the driver entered a crossover between lanes of traffic and began driving on the westbound lanes. It was there that the truck hit a black Honda CRV from Massachusetts head-on. The three adults in the CRV were transported to Maine Medical Center. Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says one of the occupants of that vehicle is hospitalized with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the stolen truck, Mary Jo Hefferon, 33 of Farmington, New Hampshire was transported to Maine Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She's charged with eluding arrest, violation of conditions of release, operating without a license, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, driving to endanger, and receiving stolen property.
