New Hampshire Fugitives Found Hiding in York County Home
Police in Maine found two fugitives, with active warrants in New Hampshire, hiding in a home in the town of Lebanon.
It was approximately 6:30 Thursday evening when State Police Troopers went to a home on the Jim Grant Road, in an effort to locate 32-year-old Samantha Smith of Rochester, New Hampshire. Smith had an active warrant out of the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department for probation revocation. The underlying conviction that led to this warrant was for possession of cocaine. Troopers searched the home and found Smith hiding in a closet in one of the bedrooms.
As police continued their search, they came across a man hiding in a closet in another room of the house. He initially gave police a false name, but was quickly identified as 36-year-old Ryan Barbin of Rochester, New Hampshire. He held a warrant out of the Strafford County Sheriff's Department for violation of bail conditions and theft.
Both suspects were transported to the York County Jail, where they received additional charges of being fugitives from justice. Police say they will be extradited back to New Hampshire at a later date.
