A nearly $2 million grant is helping to replace Bangor's aging fleet of Community Connector buses. The first new bus hit the streets today.

You'll be seeing brand new buses cruising around the Bangor area. Back in April, the City of Bangor received a grant to upgrade the Community Connector fleet. The $1,944,540 grant comes from the Federal Transit Administration’s Buses and Bus Facilities Grants Program.

Today the first new bus arrived from California.

Officials say the Community Connector’s ridership has doubled in the last decade.

The Community Connector serves the greater Bangor area, including Brewer, Hampden, Orono, Veazie, Old Town and the University of Maine.
