I scared JR this morning, I think, when I told him I nearly called in 'sick.' I'm not the one who's sick, though. It's my car. See Jack (that's my car) has had a rough winter, like a lot of cars, I'm sure!

Jack is a 15-year-old Toyota Corolla and I love him. He's always been reliable, despite the fact that he has over 140,000 miles under his fan belt. But this winter's cold weather and horrible roads have caused him to show his age.

I nearly called into work this morning, because Jack has an ignition problem. We thought it was the starter relay, so Jim replaced it....and Jack started without a hiccup...for a few days. Now he's back to the repetitive 'click' every time we turn the key. This morning, I listened to about 20 minutes worth of 'click!' Frustrating! Finally, he'll catch just right and actually start. Time to replace the whole starter, I guess.

In addition, we took Jack to Portland a couple weeks ago. On the way home, my son (who was in his own car) called and told me we have a headlight out. At least that's an easy fix! And sometime during the trip, we noticed the muffler is quite loud. And, oh yeah, the heat shield is rattling against the exhaust. Lovely!

The good news is, all of these problems are pretty easy to fix, so Jack will be back in shape in no time! So, how's your car doing? Have the potholes, frost heaves, and icy temperatures taken their toll on your car or truck's health? I'll bet an all-wheel alignment would help a lot!
