Bar Harbor Man Dies after Multi-Car Crash [UPDATE]
A 3-vehicle accident in Town Hill began when a Bar Harbor man's vehicle rear-ended the one in front of it.
UPDATE: Mount Desert and Bar Harbor Police now report that Christopher Buzzell has died from injuries sustained in this crash. Our condolences to his family and friends.
Bar Harbor and MDI Police say the Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 45-year-old Christopher Buzzell of Bar Harbor, was traveling south on State Highway 102 when the accident happened. Buzzell's vehicle didn't stop in time, when the vehicles in front of him stopped, and he rear-ended a Toyota Land Cruiser, driven by 23-year-old Halsey Aguiar of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The impact sent Aguiar's vehicle into the back of a GMC Sierra pickup truck, driven by 54-year-old Edward Monat of Bar Harbor.
Buzzell sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth. From there, he was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, due to the extent of his injuries. No one else was hurt in the crash. All three vehicles were heavily damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
Mount Desert and Bar Harbor Police were assisted at the scene by the Bar Harbor Fire Department, Hancock County Sheriff's Office and Maine State Police. A portion of State Highway 102 was closed for about 3 hours.
The accident remains under investigation.
