Moosehead Outdoor Alliance (MOA) was recently awarded a $120,000 Recreational Trail Program Grant from the Maine Bureau of Parks and Land. Yes, that’s a sizeable amount of money.

Other local generous donations will be added to the total , will allow MOA to begin construction on zone 2 trails in the Little Moose Public Land!

All this work is being coordinated with a professional trail builder and the current plan is to build 5 miles of trail in 2023 and another 5 miles in 2024.

Chuck Wagenheim, President of the Moosehead Outdoor Alliance says:

I am excited about this project because it will put the Moosehead region on the map as a destination Mountain bike trail system. Also our partnership with the Bureau of Parks and Lands gives us access to great Mountain bike terrain within easy access to Greenvi

These trails will include intermediate and advanced trails, all within easy riding distance from town!

Zone 2 will be a great complement to the already completed zone 1 trail system at Gravel Pit Pond.

We completed the trails in zone 1  last summer and the feedback from riders has been great. Zone 1 includes 12 miles  of trails for beginners and intermediates riders and can be accessed from town or the Gravel Pit Pond parking lot.

The final loop will be completed in the spring!

These trails are also easily accessible from town and will have their own parking trailhead less than a mile from downtown Greenville!

Finally, a new kiosk and more signage will be added to the trail system.

More from Chuck

We are starting the buildout of zone 2 this spring. This will include 13 miles of beginner to advanced terrain and will take 2 years. Zone 3 will start after the completion of zone 2 and include another 10 miles of trails. The entire buildout of zone 2 and 3 will be approximately 4 years. Trails will be opened as they are completed so trails in zone 2 will be rideable next year.

This project will bring more healthy lifestyle options for our community and guests and bring Mountain Bike enthusiasts to our beautiful area

Check the MOA website for fun group rides and other activities that will start up again in June.

Exciting times as MOA and Piscataquis County NEMBA work together to build and maintain over 25 miles of mountain bike trails in the Greenville area.
