A Dixfield man is charged with attempted murder after trying to shoot his ex-girlfriend while she slept.

Mexico Police told WGME-TV that Harry David Every broke into the woman's home, earlier in the day, drank beer in the basement, and waited for the woman and her teenage daughter to come home. When the women went to bed, Every allegedly went upstairs and hit the mother in the back of the head with a pistol. He then allegedly held the gun to her temple and told her he was going to kill her. But, when he pulled the trigger, the gun misfired, so he changed the bullets. But, when the gun again misfired, he put new bullets in, and a shot hit the wall.

At this point, the woman's daughter says she entered the room and yelled at Every to stop. He retreated to the basement and the mother and daughter escaped out a window. Every eventually surrendered to police and was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail, where his bail was set at $250,000. He faces several felony charges, including attempted murder.
