Maine Police Arrest a Man in Brewer Wanted for Murder in New York

A drug investigation in Milford led police to arrest a suspect wanted for murder in New York.

Brooklyn Man Had an Active Arrest Warrant From His Home State

Devon Joseph Holmes, 35, of Brooklyn, New York had an active arrest warrant for murder out of New York City when he was taken into custody in Maine.

He Was Discovered to Be In Maine During a Drug Investigation in Milford

This incident began as members of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office were in Milford on Monday, April 29th, conducting a drug investigation. As part of that investigation, they identified several people, including a man who had recently arrived from New York. When the male subject was identified as Holmes, officials learned that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in New York on a charge of murder.

Police Surrounded a Vehicle in Brewer to Take Holmes Into Custody

Surveillance of Holmes was set up by sheriff's deputies, with the cooperation of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Holden Police Department. When the suspect was observed leaving a Holden residence and traveling into Brewer on Wilson Street, deputies and officers surrounded the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Holmes was placed under arrest and transported to the Hancock County Jail, where he awaits extradition to New York.
