
Maine DOT Worker Struck By a Passing SUV on I-295 in Gardiner
Maine drivers are being reminded of the state's Move Over law after another DOT worker was hit by a passing vehicle.

The names of those involved have not been released, but Maine State Police say a 57-year-old Lewiston man was hit by an SUV, driven by a 39-year-old Gardiner woman.
The DOT worker suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

He was working with two other men on the northbound side of I-295 in Gardiner when the crash happened, just after 1:30 on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Maine DOT Worker Was Hit as He Removed Debris from the Interstate in Gardiner
Police say three Department of Transportation employees were in a DOT truck, with its amber warning lights flashing in the breakdown lane, while they worked to remove tire debris from the roadway.

Just before the crash, one of the workers stepped out of the vehicle to remove debris near the right-hand fog line when he was struck by a 2021 Cadillac SUV, operated by a Gardiner woman.
The DOT worker was transported to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with non-life-threatening injuries.
Maine DOT Workers Were Killed in a Chain-Reaction Crash in January 2026
In January, two Department of Transportation workers were killed in a Waterville crash.
James Brown and Dwayne Campbell, both of Waterville, were killed when a chain-reaction crash threw them from the overpass where they were working.
Samantha Tupper of Augusta allegedly failed to heed a stop sign and was hit by a tractor-trailer, which propelled her SUV into the DOT workers.
Maine's Move Over Law requires motorists to move into the adjoining lane or significantly slow down when passing stopped emergency vehicles, public service vehicles, or any disabled vehicles using flashing lights.
