It's true, a 4-bedroom house in Limestone is listed on for $1, but there's more to the story.

Is The House Really Listed for $1?

I was looking at the homes on the other day, and I thought it would be fun to check for the least expensive home in Maine. Imagine my surprise when I saw this beautiful 4-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom home in Limestone listed for a buck. Really? There has to be more to this. You can't buy a house this nice for a dollar, right?

Anything You Can Tell Us About the House?

According to the listing, the house features 1,588 square feet and sits on 0.38 an acre of property. The picture shows that it's a 3-story house, with an attached garage that has what looks like storage space over it. There's a beautiful porch that's open in the front and enclosed along the side. I'd buy the house just for the porch. It's gorgeous.

Nice! So...What's the Catch?

Here's the deal - the $1 is actually just to get it listed on sites like You know, how people do things on the Facebook marketplace where you have to enter a price. Fredrick Dobbs with Dobbs Realty posted it for $1 in order to have it included in the listings on sites like In reality, the house is up for bid in an online auction and will sell for much more than that. Still, houses sold at auction often go for much less than you'd expect to pay, so it's totally worth looking into. Anyone interested in learning more or wishing to make a bid should contact Mr. Dobbs and he can direct you to the online bidding site.

As someone whose family is originally from Aroostook County, I have to say that this is a pretty sweet deal. Limestone is located about 30 minutes from Presque Isle and roughly 15 minutes from Caribou, so rural living that still offers access to the stores and restaurants of those larger communities. And, honestly, you'd be hard-pressed to find people nicer than those you'll meet in Northern Maine.
