On Wednesday morning, Jordan Wood announced he’s ending his campaign for the U.S. Senate to instead run for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.

The Democrat had previously been seeking to replace Republican Senator Susan Collins, facing primary challenges from Governor Janet Mills and Graham Platner, but will now focus his efforts on representing northern and western Maine in Congress.

Wood says he’s running for Congress for the same reasons he launched his Senate campaign earlier this year.

His main focus is to bring new leadership dedicated to tackling Maine’s affordability crisis in childcare, housing, and healthcare. He says he made the decision to run after learning that Golden would not seek reelection.

Former Maine Governor Paul LePage is also running and, as of November 12th, is the only Republican to have entered the race for Maine’s 2nd District.

Wood says he’s built a campaign ready to defeat LePage, having held town halls in all 11 counties and promising to work tirelessly for the people who shaped him.
