The former governor has shared his response to the news that Jared Golden will not be seeking reelection in 2026.

Paul LePage is currently the only declared Republican running for Golden’s congressional seat in 2026, a seat Golden held in 2024 with 50.3% of the vote.

Golden announced Wednesday that he will not seek reelection after serving eight years in Congress, sharing the news in an op-ed for the Bangor Daily News.

In it, Golden said that while he believes he could win, growing ‘incivility and plain nastiness’ in politics, along with recent acts of violence and threats toward him and his family, led him to decide it’s the right time to step away.

Former Governor LePage responded to Golden’s announcement by reaffirming his focus on representing rural Maine.

LePage said the race is about giving working Maine families a voice in Washington, adding that ‘this fight is just beginning.’

In the comment section, one supporter wrote, ‘With today’s news and last night’s insanity…let’s kick it into high gear!! LePage all the way!!’

LePage himself replied, encouraging them to take action by donating and joining his campaign team through his website.
