Police say ice and slush contributed to an accident that overturned a dairy truck in Monticello this morning.

State Police say the accident happened at around 3:45 Monday morning on U.S. Highway 1 in Monticello. A Sterling box truck owned by Houlton Farms Dairy was found on its side. Police say the truck started to slide to the right due to slush and ice on the roadway, entered the breakdown lane, hit a snowbank, and rolled onto its left side. The driver, Brian Little of Houlton, was able to free himself from the vehicle and was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital for minor injuries.

The truck was loaded with dairy products at the time of the crash. Both the north and south bound lanes had to be blocked for approximately 45 minutes while the truck was turned over. In addition, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection was called in to deal with hazardous fluids that were leaking from the truck.
