Hurricane Harvey Shelter Dogs Arrive In Maine

15 dogs arrived at the Bangor Humane Society this morning from Texas shelters affected by Hurricane Harvey, and will soon be available for adoption.

Watching the footage of flooding and devastation in Texas, it's easy to forget that not only humans were impacted. Pets become displaced from their families and it's left up to the local shelters to offer them a warm bed and meals until they can all be reunited. But that leaves little room for the homeless pets who would normally be occupying shelter beds.

So some of the homeless dogs have now been transported to Maine in hopes of finding their forever homes. It's too soon to adopt the dogs, or even to view them, but they will be available in the near future. Folks can stay up to date on their availability through the Bangor Humane Society's Facebook page and on their website.

Suzan Prendergast, Executive Director of the Bangor Humane Society, said in a media release that just because the shelter isn't close to Texas doesn't mean it can't help out.

"We are honored to lend a hand by opening our kennels to these homeless dogs in hopes that the displaced pets in Texas can be reunited with their families," Prendergast said. "We will continue to help in any way we can."
