Human Remains Found At Sanford Construction Site Were Those Of A Child
Remains found by construction workers at the site of the old Sanford cemetery are those of a child.
The discovery was made by construction workers who were digging a water line to Main Street from the site of the old Emerson School that was demolished last month. An old cemetery had been moved from the location when the school was built in the 1930's and it's believed the discovered remains were missed during that process.
The Sanford-Springvale Historical Society posted on Facebook that the remains were found with to be those of a child. Also discovered at the site was wood from a coffin that contained a single-pane glass window, which was not unusual during the Victorian era. Now, the Historical Society is looking for a reliable DNA testing facility to try and learn the child's identity. If they are successful, it will then be up to the child's relatives to decide when and how the remains will, once again, be laid to rest.
