Homeowner, Firefighter Injured In Orrington House Fire
Orrington House Fire
A homeowner jumped from the second story of his burning home Wednesday night in Orrington.
The fire on Snow's Corner Road in Orrington was called in at around 10:30 p.m. Flames could be seen coming through the roof and windows of the large two-story house, when crews arrived. WLBZ-TV reports there was live ammunition in the home that went off while firefighters worked to douse the blaze. There's no report of any injuries, due to the ammunition.
The homeowner refused an offer to go to the hospital to get checked out after escaping the fire by jumping out a second story window. Officials say he was already outside the building when crews arrived. A firefighter was also injured when he slipped on the ice.
Fighting the fire was challenging, as there are no water sources nearby. Crews were still on the scene early this morning, as a thin stream of smoke rose from the roof. Investigators will now work to determine how the fire started.
