A Maine School is Shaken by Threats From a Student Toward Others
The student allegedly made threats against other students at the Greenbush school, as well as staff members.
Where Did This Happen?
There's no information as to the nature of the threats, but it was enough for administrators at the Helen S. Dunn School in Greenbush to report them to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office. The incident is now under investigation.
Why Was It Reported?
School Administrator Gwen Smith updated concerned parents via the school's Facebook page, stating that the student made threats that were directed at other students and staff members.
As you know, any threat made in a school setting is never tolerated and will be investigated. The safety and well-being of all students and staff is our top priority and we will follow all necessary steps, including law enforcement involvement, to ensure that everyone can feel safe here at school.
She encourages parents to talk to their kids about the importance of reporting any encounter that makes them feel unsafe. Smith adds that times have changed and, in this day and age, you can't make a threat and then take it back by saying that you were joking or not serious.
Is the Student in Question Still in Class?
As the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office investigates, Smith says the student in question will have no contact with any of the other students or the staff members they named in the threat.
A Guidance Counselor is available to any and all students who need to talk about what they're feeling.
We'll update this story as more details become available.
