Grab Your Pedometers, The Brewer Riverwalk Is Expanding Again.

I gotta say, Brewer has really just been crushing it when it comes to this whole riverwalk deal. Occasionally, my wife and I will walk on the Bangor side, and it's nice. But with all the construction going on over on that side, between the city's new giant tank system, and Waterfront Concerts construction, it's been kind of a mess over there for a minute.

Don't get me wrong, the work needs to be done, but when you're over on the Brewer side, it's a whole different world. There's benches all over the place, flower gardens, access to the shoreline in a small spot... And it's really a nice way to kill 30 or 40 minutes. But it looks like it'll take more like an hour or so soon.

Right now, one end of the current version of the path is right in front of Mason's Brewing Company, and from that spot, the path will continue towards the Veteran's Bridge and bring folks down to South Main Street. It'll add almost another tenth of a mile to the trail, according to Fox ABC Maine.

A large portion of the funding is from leftover federal funds that city can make use of, and the rest will come from the city's coffers via taxes. All in, the project should come in just over $600,000. But honestly, what a way to use the money. I wish more cities and towns had the foresight to invest so heavily in themselves.

It will be a little while before construction is complete. The whole thing should be open to the public sometime in 2023. But it's not like we're losing the killer trail that's already there. There's plenty to keep us occupied until then. In the meantime, if you're really in need of a change of scenery, you can always go check out the digging on the Bangor side...
