Government-Mailed Covid Tests Could Have Issues Here in Maine
Brrr. It was cold over the weekend. That after we got another pile of snow on Friday.
And the weather wasn’t much better in a lot of the country. Freezing in Texas. Snow in the Midwest. You get the "drift." Oops, you get the picture.
Remember those Covid tests the federal government was sending to us in the mail?
We had to sign up for them, and the page said we’d get up to four.
Well, most at-home Covid 19 test brands recommend storing the tests above 35 degrees.
What’s the temperature at your mailbox in Eastern Maine?
Cindy Prins at The University of Florida told USA Today that the
“liquid reagent inside the cartridge that comes with the at-home tests is susceptible to freezing, and if that happens, the accuracy of the results decreases”
Oh no.
How did whoever let this happen? You know you had one job to do and this happens.
Is anybody up to do the math on what the cost of the tests and the mailing would total?
Additional reading and you might discover that the results will depend on how long the package has been cold. Not sure that we can determine that answer on our own.
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”
There is nothing in there about freezing temperatures, or us leaving stuff in the mailbox overnight.
