A teacher at Pine Tree Academy is facing multiple sex charges in connection with his involvement with a 15-year-old student.

Police say that 37-year-old Derek Boyce of Woolwich had admitted to the sexual relationship with one of his students. He was indicted on Tuesday for a total of 26 counts of sexual assault and sexual abuse.

The relationship was confirmed when the girl's mother caught the pair engaged in a sex act in her home. She contacted police and Boyce was arrested. The mother had contacted the religious school previously, indicating she felt Boyce was spending too much time alone with her daughter. The school said they were aware of the situation and had spoken to the teacher.

A spokesperson for the Freeport school told WABI-TV that Boyce has been placed on administrative leave. School administrators believe this was an isolated incident and no other students were involved.
