The dramatic crash of a New England Forest Rally car was caught on video by a helmet cam, including the occupants' frenzied escape from the flames.

Ken Block and his navigator, Alex Gelsomino, were traveling in the 1991 Ford Escort Cosworth when it suddenly struck a large rock on the side of the road, rolled twice and crashed, bursting into flames. The helmet camera recorded the whole accident, including how quickly flames began leaping over the front of the car.

The race, which is based in Newry, had just begun on Friday when the accident happened, a not-uncommon occurrence in rally racing. This form of competition involves a driver and navigator traveling at high speeds along twisty dirt roads.

Both Block and Gelsomino escaped from the burning car, despite having to remove the steering wheel to get out.
