One man died and another was hurt when their UTV crashed in Westfield.

Have Officials Released the Names of Those Involved?

Jason Wilmot, 40, of Portland was killed in a UTV crash Sunday night. His passenger, Chris Foster, 44, of Gorham was injured. Wilmot was driving the UTV at the time of the crash.

What Happened?

The Maine Warden Service says the crash happened a little after 10:30 Sunday night on a woods road near Westfield. The pair were traveling down a road that had a gradual downhill grade and came upon a point where the road veered to the right with a low spot in the turn. Wilmot was unable to negotiate the turn and hit a slight embankment, which caused the UTV to start to tip. It hit a tree, which ejected both passengers from the vehicle.

Wilmot was pinned underneath the UTV and passed away at the scene of the crash. Foster sustained injuries to his head and was transported by ambulance to AR Gould Hospital to AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle.

Were There Any Contributing Factors?

Officials say neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing helmets and they were not buckled in. An initial investigation suggests that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

This incident remains under investigation.
