A Fairfield man faces domestic violence charges after holding police at bay for several hours.

Police  went to the residence on West Street just before noon Tuesday for a domestic complaint and ended up spending several hours in a standoff situation. When initial attempts to get 33-year-old Kenneth Ruggerio to exit the residence were unsuccessful, the State Police Tactical team was called in. They shut down the area around West Street, donned fatigues and helmets, and worked for several hours with a negotiator to try and convince Ruggerio to give himself up.

WABI-TV reports 33-year-old finally surrendered without incident and was taken to the Somerset County Jail. He's charged with Domestic Violence Assault, Domestic Violence Terrorizing, and Refusing to Submit to Arrest.
