An Augusta man was located and arrested by police after he walked away from a single-vehicle crash.

Police were called to the intersection of Bolton Hill Road and Route 3 just before 12:30 Saturday morning. When they arrived, they found a 2014 Dodge Journey that had struck a tree and had several air bags deployed. There was no one around the scene and so no indication whether anyone had been hurt. The SUV had extensive front end damage.

A quick search of the area found 23-year-old Shane Cater of Augusta walking on the Bolton Hill Road. Police questioned him and determined that he was the driver of the Dodge and that he was uninjured.

Cater was arrested and charged with OUI, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, violating conditions of release, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and operating with a suspended registration. He was taken to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility where bail was set at $1,500.
