Dead Eagle Found In Bucket Prompts Investigation, Reward Offer

The Maine Warden Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are currently seeking information in the shooting of a bald eagle in Washington County.

The eagle was found discarded in a bucket on the side of the road in Day Block Township near Wesley, according to a news release from the Maine Warden Service.

Investigators found shot pellets at the scene and had the eagle X-rayed. The resulting X-ray highlighted dozens of shotgun pellets within its body. Due to the condition of the eagle, wardens believe it was killed several weeks ago.

Under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to conviction. Maine Operation Game Thief is offering an additional $1,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
