Cherryfield Standoff Leads To Crack Cocaine Arrests

Three New Yorkers and two locals face felony drug charges after an early morning standoff Friday at a home in Cherryfield.

Police made the arrests after executing a search warrant at 177 Tenan Lane. At the request of MDEA, the State Police Tactical Team also responded to the home and assisted with the arrests.

Executing the search warrant was no easy task, however, after members of the group inside the home held police at bay for nearly two hours.

Evelyn Westcott, 21, Jason Randolph, 27, and Jamal Santiago, 18, all of the Bronx, N.Y., each face charges of unlawful trafficking in crack cocaine and creating a police standoff.

Juan Huertes-Borges, 36, of Cherryfield, also faces one charge of unlawful trafficking in crack cocaine and creating a police standoff.

Additionally, Fred Rini of Harrington faces one charge of unlawful trafficking in crack cocaine.

Police say evidence of drug use and drug packaging was found in the home along with $8,200 in suspected drug proceeds.

Police say members of the group would travel to Maine with large amounts of crack cocaine. They would then use a local customer's home to sell the drugs.

Bail was set at $25,000 cash for Westcott, Randolph and Santiago, $10,000 cash each for Huertas-Borges and Rini.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely, according to police.
