Watch the Brewer High School boys' basketball team as they're escorted, loudly, back to the high school after making history by winning the Class A state title.

Was It a Close Game?

If you missed it, let me tell you that it was an incredible game, especially the last quarter. Brewer was up...and then they were down. The game was nearly over and Brewer was down by 1 point when Cam Hughes threw a layup and scored with 2.7 seconds left in the game. It wasn't over, at that point, because then Falmouth got the ball. But the one shot they had time for fell short and the Augusta Civic Center erupted with screams of joy from Brewer fans who have waited for this day for a very long time.

As a graduate of Brewer and a lifelong Witch, I'm proud to say I'm one of them. I was jumping up and down in my house, trying not to scream (and failing at it) since my husband was sleeping.

Is There a Video of the Team's Welcome Home?

Of course, after such a momentous win, you can't just let the team sneak back into town. So Brewer's first responders quickly put together an escort and brought the team back to the high school, with sirens blaring. The Brewer Fire Department caught the procession on video.

When the team got to the high school, there was a reception of supporters there to congratulate them for such a momentous win. This was not just a victory, not just a championship, it was the very first Boys' Basketball Class A State Championship ever in Brewer's history.

Will There Be Any Sort of Public Celebration?

Brewer High School's Principal Brent Slowikowski (who, by the way, gave me this job a long time ago) tells me that a community meet-and-greet with the team is tentatively planned for Thursday, after the unified game, which is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Congratulations to all the members of the Brewer High School boys' basketball team. We're all incredibly proud of you and thrilled that you brought the gold ball to Brewer.
