The Berwick Police Department is investigating after a man's body was found in a wooded area.

In a media release posted on the department's Facebook page, police say the body was found near the Salmon Falls River, just before noon on Wednesday. It's in an area where the river borders Rochester, New Hampshire, and so Rochester Police aided in the investigation, as well as the Maine State Police Criminal Investigation Division, along with a North Berwick K-9 unit. The man's body was removed with help from the Berwick Fire Department.

At this point, officials say, it does not appear the man was a victim of foul play. An autopsy is planned at the Office of the Medical Examiner, to determine cause of death and identify the middle-aged man.

Berwick Police continue to investigate this case. Anyone with information about this death is encouraged to contact Detective Steve Shisler or Captain Jerry Locke at the Berwick Police Department, 207-698-1136.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
