2 People in Belgrade Face Drug Charges, Over 2K Pot Plants Seized
State Police arrested two people after search warrants in Belgrade netted over 2,000 illegal pot plants.
What Prompted Police to Search the Homes?
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says search warrants were executed at two Belgrade addresses. Police went to homes on Guptill Road and another on Point Road in response to a number of community complaints about suspected illegal activity. Maine State Police executed the search warrants at approximately 11:00 Tuesday morning, January 2nd.
Who Was Arrested?
As a result of those searches, officials seized a total of 2,300 illegal marijuana plants. Two people were arrested:
- Yuequan Chen, 44, of Massachusetts
- Li Min Chan, 66, of Florida
Both people are charged with illegal cultivation of marijuana and unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs (500+ plants). Both charges are class B felonies. Chen and Chan were transported to the Kennebec County Jail.
There's no word on whether this investigation is connected to a similar operation in the town of China that resulted in three people being arrested.
