Belfast Police Confirm Recovered Body is Missing Woman
Belfast Police say a body was recovered from the water near the Armistice Bridge on Monday.
The body was discovered by employees of the Front Street Shipyard, who called authorities just before 3 PM Monday. Rescue crews recovered the body, which was sent to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office to determine identity and cause of death. Tuesday morning, Belfast Police confirmed that the body is Joy MacDonald of Belfast.
It was just a week ago when crews were searching the water, in that area, looking for any sign of the local woman who's been missing since September 9. Joy MacDonald's white Nissan was found near the footbridge, and so searchers have been concentrating on the waterfront.
MacDonald had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis a few years ago, which can be debilitating. Family members told the BDN that she was sometimes confused or disoriented. Again, police have confirmed that it was MacDonald's body that was recovered from the water on Monday.
