
Belfast, Maine Bust Results in 2 Arrests, Over $29K in Drugs
Two people were arrested during a drug bust in Belfast, including an elderly man accused of giving rides to dealers.
Maine and Massachusetts Men Charged with Drug Trafficking in Belfast
A Maine man and an out-of-stater were arrested on June 17, 2026.
- Larry Metcalf, 80, of Swanville
- Eduin Chala-Ramirez, 21, of Boston, Massachusetts
Both of the men are charged with aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs.
Maine DEA Says Elderly Belfast Man Allegedly Gave Rides to Out of State Drug Dealers

The charges stem from a months-long investigation into information that suggested Metcalf was giving out-of-state drug traffickers rides to local residences to sell their drugs.
Maine Drug Enforcement Officials received credible information that Metcalf was meeting someone at the bus station in Belfast on the 17th.
Agents were at the bus station when they saw Metcalf arrive.
A short time later, a bus traveling from Massachusetts pulled in, a male exited the bus, and got into Metcalf's vehicle.
Maine Drug Agents Seize Fentanyl and Cocaine During Traffic Stop
Drug agents working with the Belfast Police Department and the Waldo County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on Metcalf's vehicle.
After a drug certified K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal substances, officials conducted a search of the vehicle and its occupants.
As a result, agents seized 55 grams of fentanyl and 250 grams of cocaine from Chala-Ramirez.
The estimated street value of the drugs is approximately $29,100.00
Chala-Ramirez was transported to the Waldo County Jail awaiting his initial appearance in court. His bail is set at $25,000.00 cash.
Metcalf was issued a summons and will appear in Waldo County Superior Court on August 5, 2026.
More arrests are expected in this case.
