It wouldn't be a Maine story if it didn't feature duct tape, am I right?  As is the story recently posted by Bangor Police Department's Tim Cotton and their infamous Facebook page.

A local woman heard noises coming from her basement that her dog kept barking at.  She called the Bangor PD stating that it sounded like there was an intruder down there.

The story continues, as posted on the facebook page:

Officer Jimmy Hassard rushed to her home. Upon his arrival the woman pointed out that the noise suddenly stopped. She said she opened the door and found that the thump-thump-thump had been a roll of duct tape which had fallen off a shelf and made the trip to the bottom of the stairs, one step at a time.

Hassard told her he wished she had waited until he got there to open the door, but then realized the woman was from Maine, had a dog, and a roll of duct tape. She probably could have held her own until we arrived.

Moral of the story: don't open the door until the duct of justice can be there to protect you, you know, just in case.  I put duct instead of duck.  It's a pun.

The story has made it beyond our little community to the Associated Press.
