Bangor Teen Dies in I95 Single-Vehicle Crash
An 18-year-old from Bangor died Friday in Sidney when his vehicle left the roadway on I-95.
Maine State Police say Nicholas Caron was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, just after 3:00 Friday afternoon. Officials say it appears the orange Honda Element utility vehicle was traveling north in the right lane during a rainstorm. Witnesses told police the vehicle suddenly crossed into the passing lane, went off the road and into the grassy median, where it side-swiped a tree on the passenger side. The Honda sustained massive damage to the passenger side and roof.
Police say the airbags deployed and Caron was wearing his seatbelt. He was alone in the vehicle, at the time of the accident.
Assisting State Police at the scene were members of the Maine Department of Transportation, Sidney Fire Department, and Delta Ambulance, as well as a Kennebec Sheriff's Detective who came upon the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
