We’ve got a traffic alert from the folks at The Maine DOT.

The Maine Department of Transportation has announced an upcoming inspection of the bridge on I-395 over Main Street in Bangor. The inspection is scheduled to take place Tuesday evening, April 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. and will be completed before the morning commuter traffic on Wednesday, April 26.

During the inspection, drivers should expect frequent lane changes and exit ramp closures. The first phase of the inspection will involve the closure of the Exit 3A Eastbound on-ramp from Town Farm Road for a few hours. The second phase will involve the closure of the Exit 3 Westbound on-ramp. The Maine DOT has advised drivers to slow down and pay attention to construction signs to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road. With the unpredictability of potential delays, if you know that you will be affected, I would try to leave with plenty of “OOPS” time.

The inspection is being conducted in advance of a joint repair project planned for later in 2023 or 2024. The Maine DOT is taking proactive measures to ensure that the bridge is in good condition and that any necessary repairs can be completed quickly and efficiently. I think it’s safe to say that we all want our Maine bridges to be nice and sturdy.

It is important for motorists to stay aware of the inspection schedule and potential traffic delays in the area during the inspection period for their safety and convenience.

If the weather for Tuesday night turns out to be crappy, the inspection will be rescheduled to a date that is yet to be determined.
