Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Orrington [UPDATE]

A pedestrian died Thursday evening after being hit by a vehicle on Route 15 in Orrington.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office reports deputies were called to Route 15, also known as River Road, at approximately 5:38 p.m, to a report of a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle.

Megan E. McGraw, 34, of Bangor, was apparently hitchhiking on the southbound side of Rt. 15 in Orrington when she was struck by a Ford Explorer driven by Kelli Veilleux, 45, of Bucksport.

Officials have been on the scene, reconstructing the accident and, at last report, traffic was being rerouted around the section of road between the intersections with Center Drive and Swetts Pond. The Sheriff's Office is being assisted by the Orrington Fire Department.
