3 Maine Men Arrested After a 55-Mile Police Pursuit
Three Maine men were arrested after almost hitting a Game Warden and then leading police on a lengthy pursuit.
Where Did This Happen?
It was just before 11:30 Thursday morning when a Maine Game Warden dealing with a moose complaint in Lincoln was nearly struck by a vehicle. The Warden witnessed the vehicle containing three people fleeing the scene of a suspected trespass and theft at the Lincoln Pulp and Paper Mill and alerted police.
How Did Police End the Pursuit?
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says a State Trooper located the vehicle on Route 2 in Winn and, when the driver wouldn't pull over, a high-speed chase ensued that traveled just over 55 miles. Finally, Troopers and members of the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office deployed tire deflation mats, which slowed the vehicle down. A Trooper then used the precision immobilization technique (PITT) to end the chase in Haynesville at 12:52 p.m.
Who Was Arrested?
The two passengers in the vehicle were taken into custody and taken to the Lincoln Police Department, where they posted bail.
- Zachary Hitchcock, 29, of Windham is charged with theft and criminal trespassing.
- Shane Godfrin, 34, of Orient is charged with theft, criminal trespassing, and violation of conditions of release.
The driver fled the scene, but was quickly located and taken into custody.
- Michael Godfrin, 32, of Orient was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear. In connection with this incident, he's charged with eluding, passing a roadblock, driving to endanger, operating after suspension, and criminal speeding.
Michael Godfrin will also face additional charges from the Maine Warden Service and the Lincoln Police Department. He was taken to the Aroostook County Jail.
