2-Year-Old Found in Cornville Farm Pond Dies from his Injuries
Police are investigating after a child was found, unresponsive, in a farm pond in Cornville.
UPDATE: Maine State Police say the child passed away Wednesday night. He was staying at a relative's house when the accident happened. Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says the Somerset Regional Communications Center received a 911 call just before 3:00 Tuesday afternoon. The caller told the dispatcher that a two-year-old child had been found in a small farm pond on the property at 85 James Road in Cornville, and was unresponsive. Skowhegan Fire Chief Shawn Howard was in the area, when the call went out to first responders, and so arrived on the scene quickly. He administered CPR until an ambulance arrived to transport the child to Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. From there, the child was sent by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he was listed in critical condition.

Officials say, at this point, this appears to be the result of a tragic accident. Responding to the incident were members of the Somerset County Sheriff's Office, Maine State Police, Game Wardens, Forest Rangers, and Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit.
We'll update this story as more details become available.
