The annual event has grown in popularity and for good reason.  It's a real fun time for any family with young kids.

Hey folks, gather up all of the kids this Sunday and show 'em how it's done.  Ice fishing that is.

The ice fishermen and women of the Penobscot County Conservation Association will hold their annual  Youth Ice Fishing Day this Sunday, February 21st, between 9 a.m. and 3 pm. at their clubhouse at 570 North Main Street in Brewer, right by Levasseur Pond.

Kids ages 15 and under can learn all about ice fishing and everything is provided for them free of charge.  Experienced Club members will provide the traps, the bait, and even cut the holes for the kids, all they have to do is watch what's going on, monitor their traps and get ready to pull a big fish up through the hole. We can see the excitement on a kid's face right now when that happens.

The weather at this point for Sunday looks really nice, as the National Weather Service is predicting sunny skies, fairly light winds, and a high temperature of 31 degrees.

Now here another big time bonus for the kids this Sunday, Club members will be replacing a couple of the duck nesting boxes on the pond.  The kids can learn all about that as well.

Club members tell us that the pond has a full foot of ice, and that the clubhouse bathrooms will be available.  Light refreshments like cookies will be set out. Kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Entire families are encouraged to attend.

PCCA is a volunteer organization formed in 1928 to promote and preserve our sporting heritage and wildlife in Penobscot County, according the the group's Facebook page.
