An elderly Wells woman remains hospitalized after she was struck by a deer that tried to jump over the motorcycle she was riding on.

Carol Delisle, 80, a passenger on the bike, suffered a head injury in the accident Saturday in Rochester, New Hampshire.

She remained in critical condition Monday at Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to a hospital official.

The deer tried to leap over the motorcycle to avoid being struck by the vehicle, which was being operated on Route 11 by Clifford Wescott, 84.

The animal ran off into the woods and could not be found.

The accident shut down part of Route 11 for about 40 minutes.
