Woman Driving Car That Plunged Into Fox Pond Had Just Left Methadone Clinic

Police say a woman who missed a curve and plunged her car into Fox Pond in Hancock County had just left a methadone clinic. She and her kids were rescued by a fisherman and his wife.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says 38-year-old Mandi Parker of Jonesboro was returning home from Bangor's methadone clinic when the accident happened. Her car narrowly missed Leonard Wallace, who was fishing in the pond with his wife, Rosemary. Leonard jumped in the 48 degree water and rescued Parker and her two children, 2-month-old Tanner Kjenstad, and 3-year-old Georgia Parker.

Mandi Parker had a suspended driver's license and had been drinking alcohol prior to the crash. She's charged with operating after suspension of her license, and McCausland says additional charges could be filed when troopers complete their investigation.

After the three were treated and released from the hospital, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services took custody of her two children.
