A few years back, I used to live in southern Maine, and every year at Southern Maine Community College, the Physics Dept. would have a day of class outside as a treat. They would roll out this crazy catapult contraption, and fire off gallon jugs of water.

The machine they used, constructed by the physics department, would send these jgs flying easily 1010 yards or more. They'd block off an entire section of the walking path / parking lot to allow room for the jugs to sail. It was incredibly fun to watch.

Well, on Sunday, October 7th from 10:00a.m. - 2:00p.m., as part of the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta, they will be launching pumpkins into the air to meet their squashy maker. There is something strangely fun about watching awkward, inanimate objects hurtle through the air at great speed and distance, just to blow apart when they hit the ground.

Even better, you can pay to load in your own pumpkins to watch them sail. You can get 6 shots for $5. that's a sweet deal! If you don't feel like shelling out any dough for the throw, you can just hang out and watch for free. It's a tough call...$5 isn't that much money, but just standing around watching for free sounds just as fun.

Either way, get down there and enjoy the fun. It's not every day you can watch perfectly good giant vegetables fly through the air with the greatest of ease. At any rate, I can guarantee something good will happen.
