Well, at least they stole a kiss.

Earlier this year a cross-border romance developed between Daniel Fenton of Ellsworth and Danielle Thomas of Moncton, New Brunswick. Apparently the two had met via an online dating site earlier this year and since then have been periodically meeting up at a rendezvous point that's almost a three-hour drive away for both.

Of course the United States/Canadian border is closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so the couple got creative and met up by Hodgdon where two roads run side by side with the border in between.

It's gotta be hard gettin' some good lovin' with a U.S. Customs Border Patrol Agent in between you and your honey bunny. Talk about three's company.

Mr. Fenton told Fox 22 here in Bangor that they got to know the area agents pretty well, after initially having to explain the situation a few times over to a bunch of them. Of course the agency was concerned that they may be smuggling something, other than love.

Mr. Fenton and Ms. Fenton would talk, and talk. Both have three children from prior relationships. One has to wonder if the movie Yours, Mine & Ours ever came up. Bet it did.

So finally this past Saturday, with an ordained friend who presided over the wedding and of course a United States Border Patrol Agent in attendance, the couple were married with a concrete marker that divides the countries between them.

As you can see in the video, they were able to sneak a kiss across the border.  But that was it.

We left separately after the wedding. That was a little bit tough,” Mr. Fenton told Fox 22.

Apparently the process of the two finally being together will take both countries up to six months to pull off.

If there's a bottle of champagne sitting in a hotel room somewhere it will be pretty warm by then, but well worth the wait.

"We’re really excited for her to get over here," Mr. Fenton said.

We can only imagine. All the best to them!
