The moose are on the loose.

This video shot by a dash-cam located within an Anchorage Police Department cruiser in Alaska shows a very typical situation that occurs on a regular basis in Maine as well, moose crossing the Interstate. Thankfully, everyone was paying attention this time, as mama and her baby both made it across the slippery pavement.

Of course, a car/moose accident is not laughing matter, as these accidents in Maine have claimed drivers lives in the past, and left others injured for life. As you can see from the video, a moose or a deer will come darting from the woods and into the roadway, so it's always a good idea to focus on a few of these areas while driving here in Maine.

Do not outrun your headlights at night.

If one moose or deer is attempting to cross the road, it's a pretty safe bet that others are following directly behind.

Before a collision with a moose, let up on the brake, so that the animal is pushed out of the way, and not scooped into the windshield of your vehicle.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has more information about moose in Maine at their site.
