Current and former employees of a Washington County school department have been warned of a possible data breach.

A letter has gone out to approximately 2,000 people about the incident that happened through the school department's central office. The superintendent of schools for AOS 77 told WABI-TV that the breach happened in the district's central office. It's possible that the staff members' and former staffers' names, birth dates, and social security numbers may have been accessed.

AOS 77 includes the communities of Alexander, Baring Plantation, Charlotte, Crawford, Dennysville, Eastport, Lubec, Pembroke, and Perry. School officials say no student information was involved in the breach.
