It takes a community. And in a community like Guilford, when you visit Guilford you will leave after meeting some very nice people.

They have a not-for-profit fitness center in Guilford. Friends of Community Fitness on High Street. And they have come up with a creative way to raise needed funds to assist in the operation of the fitness center.

The 1st annual Cycl-a-Thon. Dozens have signed up to participate.  Dozens of individuals and businesses have pledged to support the participants' efforts. The Cycl-a-thon is a 2-mile loop. Everyone is invited to walk run or bike the loop, as many times as they choose between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

To participate in the walk, run or bike, the registration fee is $15 for adults, and kids are free.

And during the event lots of prizes, and of course food. And for the kids bounce houses and face painting.

You can register in advance at (207) 876-4813 or make a pledge of support via that number, and you can also register to participate in the walking, running or biking the day of the event, this Saturday.  All proceeds go towards upgrading the center.

The Friends of Community Fitness is a 24 hour 7 day a week fitness center, but also a senior center and as the name suggests a community center.
