
Veazie, Maine Crash on I-95 Began When a Hood Popped Open
Three vehicles were involved in an incident on I-95 in Veazie on Wednesday after a vehicle's hood popped up, unexpectedly.
Veazie, Maine Crash Began With a Pickup and a Hood Malfunction
Maine State Police say Colby Tear, 21, of Greenbush was traveling south on I-95 in Veazie when the unexpected happened. It was approximately 7:30 in the morning when the hood on Tear's Chevrolet pickup unlatched.
The hood flew up and blocked Tear's view of the highway. Officials say he braked hard and tried to pull over to the median.
Veazie, Maine Crash Affected Two Other Drivers
Police say the driver of a 2019 Toyota Rav4 approached from behind and was not able to stop in time. The Rav collided with the back of the pickup truck. Officials have not released the identity of the RAv4 driver, but say they were taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
A third vehicle approached the crash from behind and steered to the right to avoid the initial collision. The driver of the Subaru Forester left the roadway and entered the woods. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, treated, and released.
Maine Police Shut Down I-95 for Hours after Veazie Crash
Maine State Police shut down the interstate for several hours and southbound traffic was detoured while officials reconstructed the scene.
